A Comprehensive Guide to IELTS Exam Dates and Related Things

If you are a non-native English speaker planning to pursue an educational program abroad, you should know about the IELTS exam dates if your chosen program considers it a mandatory requirement. The IDP conducts and manages the IELTS, which assesses your English communication skills. You will need to take this test if you plan to study abroad, especially in countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. Though some colleges and universities in the USA still need you to take the IELTS for their programs, it’s no longer a compulsory requirement at several institutions that accept alternative examination scores, including the GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, and PTE. You can even find several ESL (English as a Second Language) centers or other programs that help you apply without requiring IELTS scores.

IELTS Exam Dates and Fee

IELTS tests are divided into two categories – IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Students or working professionals planning to study at a college or university abroad for their undergraduate or postgraduate education take the IELTS Academic test. This test comprises four sections, namely Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.

IELTS General Training evaluates your proficiency in English in a more practical context of everyday life. In other words, it tests your fundamental survival skills in English-speaking nations. It’s taken by students migrating to English-speaking nations to undertake high school study or vocational training. It has four sections, two of which are the Speaking and Listening tests. These two tests are the same as IELTS Academic with respect to the difficulty level and format.

The IELTS is mostly held on Saturdays and Thursdays. This allows the test takers convenience and flexibility in scheduling their IELTS exam dates.
